Welcome to a brief tour of

The Math Technology Learning Center

The Math Technology Learning Center is based on the model of the "Math Emporium" at Virginia Tech. It is a computerized center for teaching selected Introductory Mathematics Courses.  The center is currently located in Tutwiler Hall.

The Director of the center is Associate Professor T. Z. Mai of the mathermatics department.

The center will be open for about 65-70 hours per week, and it is expected that a minimum of one instructor, one GTA, and one tutor will be available at all times. At the center, students can receive individual help from the staff. Students may learn at their pace, and can do homework and other assignments from home.  They are required to spend a minimum of 3 hours per week at the center.

The instructor will be available at the same times each week so that students may receive help from the instructor of their choice.

The red cup on top of the computer is an urgent signal for help.

For each course, certain weeks of the semester are designated as "test weeks".  During these weeks, students must come to the center and complete their tests.

Student records are maintained by the software for the course, and may be accessed by the instructors.

So far, this method of instruction has resulted in a dramatic decrease in the number of students who fail to complete the course. A large majority of the students have expressed a positive reaction to the course.

The yellow cup on top of the computer is a non-urgent signal for help.
